YEAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH
I got 2nd place at the SCION VOCALIST CONTEST!
Dave 1 wanted to know what a moon machine was. Christopher Roberts may have a job for me at Vice. (BUT NO RECORD DEAL? EXCUSE MEEEEEE?? ;-) Frankie Chan ended up partying and dancing with me and my friend that night.
I am definitely coming back to New York in about a week, so I also made some new friends with the New York contestants.
Most of the judge’s criticisms were pretty good for my songs, except they did call one of my songs’ lyrics cheesy! I KNEW IT! I thought it was too but I didn’t revise my first drafts too much cause I wanted to spend more time on getting the melodies and performance down, since it was a ‘vocalist’ contest. It’s interesting because I don’t think they really knew what they were supposed to be judging. songwriting? vocal tone? performance? pitch?
It got down to 2 ladies, me being one of them, and I kinda thought I was going to win at this point! I had come that far, I wasn’t going to go down without a fight!!!! But I guess the other lady had more of what they were looking for. She was really cool. Hopefully we’ll hang when I get back out here!
Honestly, it seemed a little “American Idol” to me and I probably wouldn’t have entered the contest had I known, but the fact that I got a free trip to New York and some special treatment made it all worth it. If I had competed in Los Angeles, I would probably feel differently about the experience.
The 1st place winner receives $2000.00 and some equipment, and the 2nd place winner (ME!) gets a Guitar Center gift certificate. I’LL TAKE IT! I’m always spending money there.
The best part of the trip is that they let me extend my stay a few days so I can live it up with my bestie Mia Moretti, who will also be my roommate when I return next week.
We are gonna talk about an up and coming project we are starting…….stay tuned for details.
